John Philbin, Ph.D.
John Philbin is a founding partner with Strategic Talent Solutions. He works in the areas of executive fit,
alignment, development, and engagement. Until 2002, John led a Succession Planning Practice for a firm
specializing in executive assessment and coaching. In his role, John advises senior business leaders on the
talent needs of their organization and whether a particular candidate for a job is likely to succeed and excel.
His strategy-driven view of leadership performance and potential enables him to advise senior leaders on the
talent needs of their organizations. He helps senior leaders make the tough calls about whether job candidates
will succeed or fail.
John has been a psychologist and organizational consultant for nearly 20 years. He has developed and delivered
cutting-edge executive development programs at organizations including Health Care Services Corporation
(Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, Texas and New Mexico), Sears, Guardian Life, and Whirlpool. He provides
one-on-one executive coaching to leaders at Fortune 500 companies, including Motorola, Baxter Healthcare, and
Estee Lauder. John also consults with executives at a number of privately held, entrepreneurial companies.
John's approach to coaching executives is focused on leveraging their strengths and differentiating their
personal leadership style. This includes a focus on engaging their employees around the business strategy and
creating a passionate connection to their goals. He uses a variety of business-focused development tools including
Strategic Talent Solutions' proprietary Strategic Fit Leadership Assessment©. John also employs 360°
feedback, coaching, training, action learning, and business simulation assessment centers.
John also speaks to executives throughout North America on Executive Coaching and Development, Succession Planning, and
Talent and Career Management. Audiences give him high marks for his lively style and down-to-earth examples.
John completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Loyola University. He is affiliated with Duke Corporate
